Looming gas prices have prevented us from buying SUV’s or cars with big engines. Leave alone individuals, manufacturers are facing the heat with biggies like BMW and supercar weaver Ferrari, announcing their disinterest in releasing future models with bigger engines. A few days back, Mercedes-Benz in a shocking statement, said it will pull the plug and all of its cars manufactured from 2015 onwards will part ways once in for all with petrol stations retailing diesel and gasoline fuels. The rumors are swirling once again – Chrysler Corp LLC may be headed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. Currently there are official denials of any problems with liquidity and Chrysler spokesman Dave Elshoff said “The rumor is without merit”. However, let’s take a moment and reflect back about 30 years ago when Chrysler had similar woes. Today, the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) announced the end of the 250GP class. The sanctioning body unanimously voted to the following changes in the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations: Unleaded fuel will comply with the new EU standards; Replacement of the 250GP class with 600cc four-stroke engines. At 685 #’s it’s going to take some serious weight reduction to make the new max more competitive. Looks as if the exhaust may be be the first place, but from there i have no idea. This bike was not built to compete with the likes of the Hayabusa, even though it would have been nice to see it beat it hands down in the quarter mile! I hope yamaha has corrected the high speed wobble at the forks that existed around 130 m.p.h and last but not least most of us will have to rob fort knox to own (…)
