Manhunt 2 Ban To Stay. For Now. Snore.
The increasingly boring saga of the banned Manhunt 2 game took a new twist during the week when the High Court ruled in favour of the ban imposed last June by the British board of Film Classification (BBFC).
The ban was recently overruled by the Video Appeals Committee (VAC) but the High Court’s Mr Justice Mitting said that the VAC had made an error of law regarding the meaning of the word ‘harm’.
As a result the VAC has to go back and review its findings. Obviously, the recent celebrations by Rockstar Games over the first VAC decision have been overshadowed by this decision. In a statement, Rockstar said:
“We believe the Video Appeals Committee decision was correct and do not understand the court’s decision to expend further public resources to censor a game that contains content well within the bounds established by the British Board of Film Classification’s18-plus ratings certification.”
Maybe there is hope for gamers though since some online retailers seem to know more about the future of Manhunt 2 than the rest of us.
If you check the Play.com site here, you’ll see that you can pre-order the game now for its supposed launch on March 28.-Martin Lynch
