VIDEO: Forget Black Holes, It’s The Meteors You Really Gotta Worry About
If you’ve been sat quivering under your desk since yesterday’s prophecy of imminent doom then crawl out from your fortress of despair and start looking up at the skies. The chances of tiny black holes devouring our planet are very slight, it’s probably far more likely that we’ll get hit by a meteor or other satellite that managed to slip through the net while some thick-glassed boffin was on a tea break. Thanks to the wonders of Hollywood most of us have a fairly good idea how devastating the impact of a large space-bound object hitting the planet Earth would be; our planet has in fact been ‘reset’ by such total destruction six times in its life, and if you believe some reports we’re actually overdue for another one. Fingers crossed Bruce Willis and pals are around to stop the thing when it happens, as from the video below it doesn’t look too pretty. Nothing like a nice bit of doom-mongering to help you wind down on a Friday. - Paul Lester [TechEBlog] science space meteor
