Voix MPX Range Boosts Home Audio
If you feel the need to give your home audio setup a shot in the arm but don’t want to go all-out and purchase a surround system, these new tower speakers from Voix might fit the bill.
The MPX is labelled as a ‘2.1’ arrangement, though this is a bit of a half-truth as the 36W sub is actually built into the base of one of the two speakers.
There are five high and low-range cones on the towers themselves offering 72W from each, so that’s an impressive 180W of total power.
You’ll also find a docking station for iPods and a 3.5mm auxiliary socket for other players, and there are dedicated iPod and amplifier controls and a supplied remote to help you tweak the audio.
There’s a bunch of audio-tech built in such as aluminium cone drives, double voice coils and neodymium magnets, which all sounds very fancy and certainly seems to have helped it gain some good reports from those in the know.
At £259 though it’s only a little cheaper than dedicated 5.1 surround systems with upscaling DVD players like Panasonic’s excellent PT850, so it seems like a pretty expensive way to achieve half-arsed surround.
