World Of Warcraft Hits 11m Subscribers
There are more human paladins, dwarven warriors, orc shamans and elven hunters around the world than ever before as online game, World Of Warcraft (WoW) tops 11m subscribers. Despite competition from recently launched Age Of Conan: Hyborian Adventures [read our reveiw here] and Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning, WoW continues to march implacably forward, shrugging off the recession and rivals like annoying Murlocs. WoW recently launched in Russia and Latin America, and next month will see the arrival of the next big expansion to the series, Wrath of the Lich King. The previous expansion, The Burning Crusade, became…. …..the fastest selling game of all time with nearly 2.4 million copies sold in its first 24 hours. Blizzard will be hoping to continue that run because, while 11m is a staggering number of people forking out around £10 per month, the growth rate has slowed and the global recession looks set to get worse in 2009. “It’s been very rewarding to see gamers around the world continue to show such strong support for World of Warcraft,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment®. “We remain fully committed to responding to that enthusiasm with a high-quality, constantly evolving game experience.” Wrath of the Lich King launches, with record books in its sights, on November 13.-Martin Lynch games warcraft
